2/8/08 - Texas Motorcoach Tour -
Day 1
One day of sunny travel away from Marshall, and we find ourselves tonight on the south side of Kansas City where it is 41 degrees! There is almost no snow here, and most of the 50 passengers on this Texas tour are anticipating that tomorrow it will disappear completely. Everyone has made a prediction when we will run out of it. We'll let you know who the winner is.
The day passed quickly with time spent getting acquainted, enjoying the scenery of the loess hills and finally the rolling wooded miles leading us into Kansas City. A lengthy sing along proved that this group sings well and that they enjoyed it. They kept the requests coming, so we kept singing. Tonight some people are in the Fitness center, others are going to be checking emails in the Business Center, one couple is visiting with family in the lobby, and all of us are looking forward to a good rest. - Laurel Johnson, Tour Director

Day 2
We are in Texas! It is 66 degrees, the grass is lush and we saw the first robins today. There were lots of smiles to go with the outside sunshine, and everyone enjoying standing out in the parking lots visiting before we needed to board the bus for the next stretch of driving. - Laurel Johnson - Tour Director

Day 3
I asked people on the tour what I should write on today's blog. One lady said, "It was too hot!" We did enjoy sunshine and a high of 78 degrees today, and the majority just loved spending time outside. We understand it's not quite like that at home. We've enjoyed seeing many pansies in bloom, and tonight there are palm trees at the hotel. We relived the days of "Dallas" on our visit to Southfork Ranch, the Kennedy era at Dallas'6th Floor Museum, and had lunch at one of the top barbecue places in Dallas. The Texas barbecues look like barrels on their side, and the resulting meat tastes smoked. One of the men said tonight, "That was the best barbecue I've ever had in Texas." Then he added, "Of course it's the only barbecue I've had in Texas..." - Laurel Johnson - Tour Director
Today's "highlight" was a view from the top of the San Jacinto Monument on the east side of Houston. From almost 500 feet up, we could see the Houston Ship Channel, responsible for the city's status as a very busy seaport. Ships coming and going, refineries in all directions, and miles of flat coastal plain made a huge contrast to the congestion of a city
with almost 2 million population. The rest of the day was spent at Space Center Houston, made especially interesting because we were able to get a briefing on current flight operations. Two astronauts were doing a space walk this afternoon, so we saw live coverage of some of their activity.
Our hotel tonight has an evening social hour, so we bonded over snacks and beverages, a great way to end a great day. Laurel Johnson - Tour Director
