Cherry Blossom Tour - Day 9

We saw Philadelphia highlights today with our step-on guide, Kay, who had the most infectious laugh. Her Betsy Ross-era costume put us immediately back to the 1700s when Philadelphia was the birthplace of the United States.

We saw the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were signed, and sat in the building which served as our nation's capital for ten years until Washington DC was built. We visited the beautiful Christ Church, climbed the steps at the Art Museum (also known as the "Rocky" steps...although he ran up!) and had lunch at Reading Terminal Market. Our final stops were at Franklin Court and the tiny row house where Betsy Ross lived.

This afternoon the New Jersey Turnpike and Holland Tunnel under the Hudson River brought us on to Manhattan Island. New York City is big and busy, and its tall buildings and crowded sidewalks were a little overwhelming for some. But we are nicely settled at our hotel just around the corner from Times Square, and some are already heading out across the street to
get theater tickets for tonight. We are going to be New Yorkers for almost three days! -
