California - Day 12

This morning we drove past artichoke fields before stopping to try french fried artichokes, a first for everyone. We continued on to the redwoods. They require lots of fog and moisture, so appropriately it was a little misty and foggy for our visit. However, we enjoyed a guided walking tour through a state park, allowing us to stand at the base of these giants. Then we all rode a sightseeing train into the redwood forest, providing a different way of viewing them. After lunch in Santa Cruz, we had a beautiful, sunny drive along California's coastline on #1. We stopped at
a lighthouse, watched whales spouting off shore, made a beach stop where the waves were huge. With temperatures of 65 degrees, we would have liked to have spent the afternoon there. We continued on to San Francisco and our hotel at Fisherman's Wharf. - Laurel Johnson, Tour Director
