Today was a beautiful fall day with sunshine. We drove in tree-covered mountains, on winding New England roads and enjoyed being outdoors at each stop. We crossed out of New York State into Vermont and spent the rest of the day sightseeing. Morning stops included the Vermont Marble Company, where we saw both traditional and contemporary uses of the native rock,
and the Maple Museum, where we learned about all the work required to get a gallon of the sweet syrup. Tastes of different maple products were a nice ending. Our Vermont day continued with stops at covered bridges, a country store in continuous operation since 1840 and Quechee Gorge (New England's Grand Canyon). Our overhead compartments are fuller tonight with marble chunks, maple products and Vermont weather sticks. At dinner tonight, quite a few enjoyed the new experience of eating a whole lobster.-Laurel Johnson, Tour Director
