It was another sunny day (well, except for a brief shower while we were driving this afternoon). We drove through the flat prairie land of Illinois, then through Indiana and Ohio. As we head east, the hills are getting higher, the valleys a little deeper, and the land more
tree-covered. This afternoon we spent time at the National Underground Railroad Museum. The setting was just beautiful, as it is located at the edge of downtown Cincinnati, about 1/2 block from the Ohio River. Within walking distance on one side of the building is the new baseball stadium; on the other side of the building is the nearly new football stadium. Directly across is the Roebling Bridge, built after the Civil War. The Brooklyn Bridge was modeled after it, so it has lots of character. The museum itself is spacious with excellent displays and movies. The stories of the slave trade were very sobering, but it was challenging and fun to spend time at some interactive displays. We had to make decisions about how and when to attempt an escape from our owner, finding out what the likely results would be. We might have liked a little more time there, but a wedding had been booked (with 26 in the wedding party) so it was either leave or find a gift to bring! Our stay tonight is about a half hour south of Cincinnati in Kentucky. Again the hotel had a welcome reception for us - a very pleasant ending to our day. - Laurel Johnson - Tour Director
