Everyone had a 5:00 AM wakeup call this morning from constant rumbling thunder. Fortunately the storms passed us by, and the rain had almost ended by the time we left the Kansas City area this morning. The sun came out, and we had a safe, dry day of travel. Of course, the closer we got to home, the more familiar the surroundings became. Our visit to the Smoky Mountains has been a good immersion into a different culture. We have been exposed to different accents and regional foods. We tried boiled (pronounced either “bowled” or “bald”) peanuts. We often heard “y’all.” We saw trees that we don’t have in the Midwest. The whole experience proved that travel can be great fun and a chance to expand our horizons. Laurel Johnson - Tour Director
