The thunderstorms passed through during the night, letting us wake up this morning to clear skies and sun. It was beautiful walking through the Botanical Gardens (raindrops on the roses made for a special treat), and there were so many colorful butterflies in the Butterfly Conservatory.
Most of them we had never seen before. We saw the huge hydroelectric power project that uses Niagara water to produce electricity and talked to the gardeners who were planting some of the 21,000 plants in the floral clock. They were running out, and thought that this year there might be a couple thousand more.
We left Niagara and drove to Brantford where we stopped for lunch at a mall food court. Some of us found the grocery store and bought some fruit to enjoy. Two hours later we were at the border and had to declare our fruit. We watched some of it walk off the bus with the agents!
By the time we got to Frankenmuth, it was raining, so we went directly to the hotel and enjoyed their Happy Hour. By that time the sun was out again, and we went to Zehnder's Restaurant. They have been serving chicken dinners to the public since the 1920s, and with the beautiful
setting and excellent food, it was a meal to remember. We took time to admire the many flower boxes on downtown buildings, the hanging baskets on the lamp posts, and the beauty of this Bavarian-styled community. - Laurel Johnson, Tour Director
