Niagara Falls - Day 3

It was a fine day with sunshine and warm temperatures and best of all, no delays! We drove from Windsor, Ontario to Niagara Falls, Ontario, traveling along Lake Ontario, past vineyards and orchards. Arriving in Niagara Falls by noon, we had lunch across from the Falls, and then had time to admire the views, look for rainbows in the mist and shop for souvenirs. Next we boarded the Maid of the Mist for a very exciting (and a little wet) ride to the base of both the American and Canadian side of the Falls. The amount of water that thunders down, almost right on top of the passengers, is most impressive. We were certainly thankful for those
disposable raincoats! Our hotel was in a tourist area of Niagara Falls, ON, so we had time to eat and shop. Then it was back to the Falls to see them under colored lights and to enjoy the fireworks. Except by then the weather had changed. Just as we were to get off the bus, it started to pour. We waited a few minutes, the rain quit, and we were able to look at the Falls with the night view featured on so many postcards. At the same time, we started getting a sound and light show from nature with thunder and lightning. The rain also started again, so we decided to head back to the hotel. It seems that neither rain nor lightning nor anything else
stops the fireworks, however, because right at 10:00 the "boom, boom, boom" of fireworks was heard. Those of us with windows facing the river were treated to 10 minutes of fireworks. It was a colorful end to a lovely day. - Laurel Johnson, Tour Director
