A later start this morning gave people a chance to enjoy the view of the tree-covered mountains from the hotel and also to be outside in the rather mild temperatures. A short drive brought us to Corning, NY, home of the Corning Museum of Glass. We started our visit by looking at the Glass Collection Galleries, with the very first glass made before Christ and continuing through the centuries and around the world. We could have spent all day looking and reading. The next stop in the museum was the very exciting Hot Glass Show. A glass blower demonstrated his skills and completed a seasonally-appropriate glass pumpkin. The rest of our time was spent with other displays, watching a flame working demonstration and shopping.
The rest of our day was basically driving. It seems strange to be heading west again. By late afternoon we had left the state of New York, had driven the short stretch through Pennsylvania and arrived in Ohio. We got a quick look at Lake Erie and the city of Cleveland including driving past the stadium where the Cleveland Indians play. By the time we arrived at our suburban hotel, the afternoon rain had ended, it was balmy out and everyone was ready to stretch and enjoy the evening.
