Arizona - Day 1-4

Feb.19, 2009
Cold temps urged participants in the "Arizona-Heart of Route 66" tour to arrive promptly and we were ready to travel. Snow amounts diminished quickly as the bus headed South. The KC Masterpiece restaurant was a popular dinner choice upon our arrival in Overland Park, KS.- Margaret Greig, Arizona Guest

Closely following Route 66 to Carthage, MO, Dixie- the step-on guide- was quite entertaining with her tales of the city. Sailing over the fabled Route 66 bridge in Carthage, Larry did manage to retain the SW tour bus' transmission! (Not to worry, Jim!)
A visit to the Will Rogers Memorial Museum proved to be inspirational to all. His comments on politics and life in general ring as true today as they did when he uttered them. Will Rogers on travel, "There ought to be a law against anybody going to Europe till they had seen the things we have in this country." Go Southwest Tours!!! Margaret Greig, Arizona Guest

Woke up to a cool morning of 30 degrees and wind blowing from the North at 30 mile per hour. Our first stop was at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Hall of Fame. Many things to see and photos to be taken Several people braved the elements and went outside to take the big statute of Buffalo Bill. After leaving there we went to Ann's Country Fried chicken for lunch . It was started as a gas station in 1948 along Route 66. Up the road was the Oklahoma Route 66 museum. Here many found history of Route 66. Before arriving at the motel, we had two photo stops. After a good nights rest, we will be ready for another exciting day along Route 66.-Rose Marie Wingert, Arizona Guest

There was some ice along road as we left Amarillo on Old Route 66. Sandy read a story about Kurtis Herb Warner. The Kix at 66 cafe served a a variety of good food. This cafe is located in Tucomcari,OK.
As we traveled west today, the terrain was very varied, flat with bushes, hilly and was different from one side of the bus to the other. Sandia tram ride was enjoyed by all. The 66 Diner was the topping off of a great day with Southwest tours . Rose Marie Wingert, Arizona Guest
