After yesterday's heat, today was jacket weather. It was cloudy and 60 degrees this morning, which was a huge change. Another big change happened as we drove north of the Valley and got back into miles of mesquite and huisache trees, very rough country. We had a short spurt of
rain while we drove, but by the time we arrived in San Antonio, the temperature was getting warmer, and the rain had quit. After lunch we walked through a hotel with water landscaping to get to the Riverwalk. Just as we started our one-hour ride on the San Antonio River, the sun
started to come out and some jackets came off as the temperature gradually climbed to 73. We had a lovely ride past outdoor restaurants and trees and under interesting bridges. The appearance of the city was totally different from the river level.

The rest of our afternoon was spent at the Alamo, shrine of Texas independence, where all of the defenders lost their lives against the Mexican army. While a visiting band from Quincy, IL played in the courtyard, we relived history of the 1800s with a movie, a talk and many
displays.
Now we have checked into our downtown hotel, right on the Riverwalk, where we are enjoying some fine hospitality and a social hour.- Laurel Johnson, Tour Director
