Texas - Day 3

We know it's not February in the Upper Midwest when flies are in the bus, when we can pick dandelions, when there are advertisements on TV for mosquito control products and when temperatures continue in the low 70s. It's been most pleasant.

Yesterday we relived the days of the TV show, "Dallas" by touring Southfork. The home is not as large as might be expected. The use of mirrors and camera angles doubled the size of the swimming pool and enhanced the rest of the home. It's a fun place to visit.

We continued on to a much more somber destination: the 6th Floor Museum. Formerly known as the Texas School Book Depository, a museum chronicles John F. Kennedy's visit to Dallas. Oswald was an employee at the building and shot from the corner window on the 6th floor. It was a time of remembering. Just a couple blocks away is an interesting memorial to JFK.

Lunch was at a restaurant known for Texas barbecue (more like smoked meat than meat with sauce on it).

Our last Dallas visit was at an $8 million cattle drive done in bronze. 40 longhorns come down the natural hill in the center of the city, cross a small creek and are so incredibly life-like.

The rest of the afternoon we drove to Huntsville, TX with a stop at a Russell Stover outlet store (lots of heart-shaped boxes of candy were for sale!). We watched most of the movie, "Apollo 13" in preparation for sightseeing tomorrow. - Laurel Johnson, Tour Director
