California- Day 5

Another sunny day greeted us as we left Las Vegas this morning. Our drive west was through more high desert country. We had a nice change from the sagebrush when we got to the right elevation for the Joshua trees to thrive. One last cluster of casinos marked the end of Nevada and our arrival into California. By lunch we were looking at lots more green as grasses covered the hillsides and trees included cypress and eucalyptus. Flowers in bloom also were pleasant to look at.

After lunch we drove off the interstate into the Temecula wine country. Hillsides were covered with vineyards, and 20-30 wineries all offer wine tastings. We stopped at the Wilson Creek Winery and were able to enjoy their specialties.

We continued into San Diego, driving on interstates with seven lanes of traffic in each direction. Although it is still cooler than normal, the palm trees and tropical vegetation, including a nice hedge of colorful bougainvillea and bird of paradise flowers at our hotel, make us very happy
that we are here.-Laurel Johnson, Tour Director
