This morning we were able to eat breakfast at tables by the pool if we wanted. That plus the big mosquito that landed on one man's plate meant we were not in the Midwest in March!
We started our day with a visit to the Crystal Cathedral. The entire campus was beautiful with trees, flowers, a variety of architectural styles for their buildings and towers plus the beautiful statuary with a Biblical theme. On our tour we were in the original church, the church
that we see on the Hour of Power, made of 10,000 panes of glass, the prayer tower with its beautiful laser art of Jesus, and the place where people can be buried. We were also able to spend time in the museum and gift shop building plus admire the ladies' restroom, done in marble.
The rest of the day was spent at either Disneyland or California Adventure, both of them Disney creations. Both parks have beautiful landscaping with flowering trees and flowers. Crowds of people made the visit a little overwhelming at first, but then even just people-watching became an entertaining activity. Those that explored the California Adventure park had a Soaring Over California ride where a big screen movie gave the impression that they were flying over the entire state. Live shows and other rides (including the Tower of Horror for one couple!) made for an entertaining day. Disneyland, which opened in 1955, still entertained the majority of us with the train ride around the park, the enchanting Small, Small World ride, the Haunted House, boat cruise and even the old silent movies like "Steamboat Willie." All of us, whether in the park or at the hotel, could enjoy at least some of the fireworks. Besides the usual displays, Disney had some that looked like hearts and others that looked like a space ship or the planet Saturn with rings. It was a great ending to the day.-Laurel Johnson, Tour Director
