This morning Robert took us to the waiting line for the Statue of Liberty ferry. It was so foggy we couldn't see across the river. But by the time we started going through security, the fog began lifting. By the time we got on board the ferry, we had great views of Manhattan and the Statue of
Liberty. We got off on Liberty Island and were able to walk up close to the statue. The sun was out by then, and the whole day was just perfect. Another ferry ride brought us to Ellis Island. Robert's grandmother had come over from Italy, so he could relate stories of her arrival as well as so much information about the processing of immigrants. Some of us found the names of relatives on the memorial wall, and all of us found that the exhibits were so very interesting. The last part of the afternoon was free, so we all had different experiences: shopping, walking, trying New York cheesecake, people watching (one couple saw Liza Minelli) and just soaking up the New York City excitement and energy. More went to the theater this evening.- Laurel Johnson, Tour Director
