Robert, today's step on guide, was born and raised in New York City. As a result, he gave us not only factual information about things that we saw and places we went but also personal experiences from his life. Our first stop was at the Empire State Building. The weather was so cooperative, there was no waiting line and the view from the top was impressive. We drove all around the city, looking at the tall buildings, the small shops, the crowds of people and all the hustle and bustle. The pace changed as we got off to walk through Central Park. What a peaceful haven with grass, some spring flowers, hills, rocks, benches, a fountain and a lake.
We had a long lunch break close to Rockefeller Center, giving us a chance to explore 5th Avenue after we had eaten. We continued to lower Manhattan where we walked a few blocks in Chinatown and tried cannoli and other treats at an Italian pastry shop. We stopped at Ground Zero and spent time in beautiful Grand Central Station. Our energy and muscles gave out
before we could see it all. Some of us went to a Broadway play last night, and others went tonight.-Laurel Johnson, Tour Escort
