We are on our third day out on the Niagara Falls/Mackinac Island tour. We basically were in a travel mode (cloudy and somewhat rainy) Friday and Saturday. However, the sun came out in its full array for us to arrive at Niagara Falls today. We got the cameras out and took full advantage of our first photo opportunities and stood in awe of the spectacular scene we were viewing - most of us for the first time. After marveling the sight from the top of the falls, we made our way to the Maid of the Mist ride to view both the American and Canadian Falls from below. Wow! What power you realize is in force as those millions of gallons of water per minute fall to the Niagara River below.
After checking into the Imperial Hotel/Suites, there was time to rest and do a little power shopping before once again boarding the coach for an evening of spectacular color reflecting on the falls, live music - somewhat too loud for our taste but enjoyed by most of the spectators, it appeared - and then fireworks that led to many "oh's" and "ah's." We were all now ready for a good night's rest so we could be ready for new adventures again tomorrow.
Monday, June 15: Today we began our day by taking one last drive past the falls before making our way to the Botanical Gardens, Butterfly Conservatory, and Floral Clock. We learned what ornamental onions were as be began our walk of the gardens. Approaching the rose gardens, the scents seem to float through the air and lure us in to what seemed like an artist's rendition of a rose covered with dew.
Another wonder of nature awaited us as we moved into the nearby Butterfly Conservatory and were surrounded by the vast variety of butterfly types and colors. Congratulations to several of our shutter bugs who were able to capture great pictures of the elusive blue variety of butterfly with its wings unfurled.
Our timing was perfect for arriving at the Floral Clock as the Westminster chimes were pealing.
It was now time to bid a final farewell to the Niagara area and be on our way to chicken dinner served family style in the Bavarian community of Frankenmuth, MI. Driving into a community like Frankenmuth takes one back to old Bavaria with its architectural detail and live German music playing near the Bavarian Inn. Zehnder's knows how to prepare a feast. After courses of soup and salad, our eyes opened wide to the bowls and plates of chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, corn, and buttered (homemade) noodles. Our meal was completed with a very smooth frozen dessert. Several of the group chose to walk back to the hotel after feasting on Frankenmuth's famous choice of dining.
We will lay our heads down on the pillow tonight and dream of Bronner's and all the thousands of Christmas items waiting for us tomorrow. - Sandy Moose, Tour Director
