Cherry Blossom Tour - Day 12

This morning our hotel lobby was bustling with activity. There seemed to be several groups all trying to get breakfast at once. But we were leaving earlier than they were, the restaurant has such fast service (as well as good food) and we easily left on time. We got our last views of
mid-town Manhattan and the Empire State Building just before entering the Lincoln Tunnel under the Hudson River. When we got out in New Jersey, we met a steady stream of New Jersey Transit buses bringing in commuters. We had to remember that the Long Island Railroad, other commuter trains and subways were also bringing in thousands of people into the city for their day of work.

Once we got on I-80, we had a calm day of just driving. But it wasn't boring because the scenery kept changing. First there was solid forest through the Delaware Water Gap and the Pocono Mountains. Our morning break was at a quaint diner run by Greeks. And next door was a bakery where we could have gotten one last cannoli! Later on in the morning, we
drove past some gorgeous valley farms in Pennsylvania, some of them Amish. Some with sharp eyes found two Amish grade schools, and because it was their noon hour, the schoolyard was full of children. If there hadn't been so many trees before the clearings and valley, we all could have spotted them. We also saw several deer today. Now later this afternoon we have found flatter, more open farm land in Ohio.

Some wonder if they will sleep tonight because there were quite a few naps taken throughout the day on the bus. We have been keeping up a busy pace. Laurel Johnson- Tour Director
