We had quite a sendoff from our hotel this morning. First we had a delicious hot breakfast with many choices, and then at the door of the bus we got snack packs to take with us. It was a great start. Driving west on the turnpikes, we used the service centers for both our morning break and lunch stops.
Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate for going to the top of the Sears Tower. By the time we got to Chicago, it was raining, and the Sears Tower went up into the clouds. We did a substitute activity of the Garfield Park Conservatory. It was warm and dry inside, and the beauty of the flowers and plants was a real treat. There were bananas, azaleas, palm trees, cactus plants, and something like 5,000 different kinds of plants.
During the day we watched "The Witness," which reminded us of our visit to Amish country and kept us entertained. We did find that some wanted to rewrite the ending!
Tonight's hotel treated us to a wonderful meat and cheese reception, which we put on hold until we did a group picture in the lobby. It was quite a gathering. The food and beverages were worth the wait, and we enjoyed doing some end-of-tour visiting. Now the lobby is lively with eight people playing a rousing game of cards. Others are eating dinner while others have found their rooms for the evening and are resting up for tomorrow, the last day of our tour. - Laurel Johnson - Tour Director
