Door County - Day 2 - 5

Door County Day 2

Stepping out of our motel this morning we heard the sounds of sea gulls; a definite sign that we're nearing the waters of Green Bay and Lake Michigan. Part of our adventure was crossing over the county line into Door County. Leaving Sturgeon Bay, we left suburbia behind us and immediately encountered the sights of this quaint Scandinavian county. Our first stop was at the tip of the peninsula - Northport Pier! It was here that our step-on-guide boarded and we ferried five miles to Washington Island across the waters known as Death's Door. We spent the day traversing the 35 square mile island and our adventures were best described in the words of our travelers: "ferry ride to almost heaven," "quiet, peaceful, serene, beautiful, secluded and the shoreline was breathtaking!"

We ferried back to the mainland, enjoyed a delightful BBQ evening meal - celebrated an anniversary and the merriment of making new friends! Until tomorrow...Patty Cole, Tour Director

Door County Day 3

Yes...while eating Swedish Pancakes with Swedish Lingonberries the goats were grazing overhead! That would best describe our breakfast experience at Al Johnson's. Did someone say we were in Cape Cod? No...but, that best describes the atmosphere of Door County. Today's adventure took us weaving around the county visiting the waterfront villages, harbors and Peninsula State Park We enjoyed the services of our step-on-guide providing history and folklore from yesteryears!

Our day concluded with indulging in the famous "FISH BOIL!" It wasn't too hard to invision the early settlers and lumberjacks enjoying this unique way to "boil-over" the pot of Lake Michigan Whitefish. What a treat! To compliment our meal we were served the traditional "CHERRY PIE." Word has it among our travelers that we have been well fed and well "desserted!" Until tomorrow...Patty Cole, Tour Director

Door County Day 4

Making our exit through the "DOOR", we left behind 360 years of wonderful history and an appreciation for those who pioneered and preserved the heritage of a wonderful county!

If you've always wanted to see 3,000 dairy cattle and the operation of a milking parlor -- it happened today. Visiting Van Der Geest Dairy in Merrill, Wisconsin was a wonderful experience, The mission statement from the founders/owners of this operation is to "provide an educational experience for everyone to know where milk comes from." Now we not only know, but we did encounter the sights, sounds and tour of this incredible facility.

Purchases were plenty as we visited a Mennonite Country Store enroute to our "dinner in the woods" destination. We stepped back in time as we boarded our Percheron Horse drawn wagons into the woods. The Irish settlers of yesterday developed this spot on the map near Cadot, WI and tranquility with a meal best described our "happening" this evening. Until tomorrow....Patty Cole, Tour Director
Door County Day 5

No trip to Wisconsin would be complete without a visit to a cheese factory - and the proof is in our packages!

We've delighted in making memories, meeting new friends and comments abounded relative to "what a fun" group this has been. Today is farewell...until we meet again! Patty Cole, Tour Director
