Texas- Day 14

It was a bit of a shock to wake up to temperatures in the 40s this morning. It was a quick cold front, as tomorrow it's going to be warm again. But it got us ready to head north. As we left Irving, we drove by the stadium where the Dallas Cowboys have been playing football. Now that
they will have the new stadium, this weekend is a public sale of everything from the seats to star-shaped pieces of artificial turf. For $1,500 you could even buy someones locker from the locker room.

Our drive into Oklahoma City took us past bright green fields, horse farms and oil fields. We spent several hours at the Oklahoma City National Memorial. It was a sobering visit, reliving the 1995 bombing of the federal building. We listened to voices of survivors telling their stories. We also learned that the intent of the bombers had been to divide the country. The result, however, was the opposite in that it brought people closer together.

There were pansies blooming (we thought they looked a little unhappy about the 40 degree temperature!) and there were robins hopping around on fields this afternoon.

Besides seeing green fields of winter wheat and more pump jacks in Kansas, we also drove through miles of the Flint Hills. This area has such flinty soil that no crops are grown. Instead it is rolling grazing land for as far as the eye can see with no trees and no buildings. - Laurel Johnson, Tour Director
