Because Cheyenne is the state capitol, we made a photo stop at the capital building this morning. Heading east, we found open land as far as the eye could see. Not one tree. Eventually, as always, that changed. There were some winter wheat fields that were green, and after we crossed into Nebraska, we found center pivot irrigation systems and regular fields. By early afternoon we had crossed back into Central Time Zone and arrived at Kearney, NE where it was 75 degrees. It felt so good. We spent time at the Archway Monument that goes over I-80. We had headphones to listen to a very informative commentary about all the immigrants that followed the Platte River west to Oregon or California. It's a wonderful stop. Then we drove out into the countryside with a step-on guide, looking at thousands of sand hill cranes. We also made a stop at Fort Kearney with
displays and a video on bird migration. Our stay tonight is in Kearney. -Laurel Johnson, Tour Director
